Summary
The Cost Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for equipment, major maintenance, and rework or revamp projects. This role involves analyzing project specifications, collaborating with various stakeholders, and ensuring all aspects of the project are accounted for in cost estimation process. This position requires a committed individual who can receive and process information from a variety of sources, from which decisions critical to the success of the company are made.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop detailed cost estimates for projects including materials, equipment, etc. for both internal and external customers.
Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates.
Review and, when necessary, assist with development of project scope.
Maintain cooperative communication with Project Manager, AMS Sales and Service Managers to ensure accurate information is developed.
Work with Cost Estimating team to develop historical database from which future quotes can be more quickly derived.
Work closely with Operations and Procurement teams to obtain accurate pricing and availability information.
Prepare detailed and well-documented cost estimate reports, including assumptions, methodologies, and pricing sources.
Present cost estimates to various stakeholders, clearly explaining the basis and assumptions of estimates.
Identify opportunities for improving estimating processes, tools, and methodologies.
Implement best practices in cost estimating to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related field.
Work Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in cost estimating, preferably in natural gas or energy sector.
Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality outcomes.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Comprehension of industrial drafting standards symbols for P&ID, electrical and control diagrams.
Must be reliable, dependable, and able to work extended hours if necessary.
Must work well in a team-oriented environment.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to perform under pressure to meet deadlines.
Thorough understanding of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and proven ability to quickly learn, utilize, and comprehend other software.
Ability and willingness to become familiar with the technical aspects of reciprocating and rotary screw natural gas compressors, natural gas-powered engines, electric motors, control equipment and field production equipment.
Physical Demands
Extended or non-traditional working hours may be required.
Must be able to stand or walk on uneven terrain, climb personnel stairs and ladders, stoop, squat and/or crawl depending on the directed task.
Requires an employee to frequently type and use computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, calendar, telephone, etc.
